Marvao

"This serene medieval hamlet is dramatically set at 2,828 ft. on a spectacular escarpment facing Spain. Its 13th-century walls and 17th-century buttresses blend seamlessly into the granite of the mountains, making it an impregnable stronghold." We stayed at the Pousada de Marvao, Santa Maria, one of the "small traditional houses of Marvao." The charming rooms and exceptional views towards Spain provided a special experience inside the walls of this small village high atop a craggy mountain.
